Description: Portrait of William M. Allen, M.D., by Viktor De Jeney, n.d. Oil on canvas, framed, total dimensions 34.5 x 42.5 inches. A brass plaque at the base of the frame reads: “Willard M. Allen, M.D.” Allen was head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1940 until 1971, and is particularly noted for discoveries of progesterone and other biochemical characteristics of the female reproductive system.
