A brass plaque on the base of the frame reads: “ROBERT ELY SHANK, M.D. / DANFORTH PROFESSOR OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE / 1948-1982 / WHOSE LEADERSHIP WAS PIVOTAL TO ESTABLISHMENT / OF THE IWJ INSTITUTE OF REHABILITATION IN 1959.” Shank was a member of the class of 1939 and, as Danforth Professor, was head of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. |
