Information Services & Training Program
Full reference service is available to all Medical Center affiliated individuals. Additional affiliated groups include members of the Danforth Campus, all Medical School alumni (Medical, Dental, Health Administration, allied health programs, and former housestaff), and members of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. Limited service is available to individuals or companies outside the Medical Center or Washington University; selected services are available through the Library’s Membership Program.
Reference Services
A sample of the reference and education services offered by the Information Services staff includes:
- Answering questions and providing instruction concerning all aspects of library use both on-site and via remote locations.
- Assisting clients in accessing and utilizing the library’s many electronic resources.
- Directing clients in utilizing the library’s varied print collections and departmental services.
- Consulting with clients on all aspects of information use including access, retrieval and management.
Education Services
- Instructing library clients in the use of library information systems and electronic databases.
- Offering tailored instruction on topics including Internet use, file management, molecular biology resources, and all Ovid Online databases.
- Providing individual or group training sessions in laboratories, offices, departmental auditoriums or conference rooms by request.
- Teaching regularly scheduled computer courses on information management, internet training, and database searching.
