Becker in the Community
Becker Medical Library seeks to be a positive element in not only the Medical Center community but also the surrounding St. Louis community, exemplifying the community spirit of the School of Medicine.

To that end, Becker Medical Library is an active participant in the School of Medicine’s community outreach efforts. The Library develops programs to foster consumer health literacy, seeking opportunities to partner with the School of Medicine, Medical Center groups, and local organizations in their efforts to improve health literacy. The Library also advocates for consumer health programs and promotes the use of reliable consumer health resources.
Using Becker Medical Library
The Becker Medical Library and its resources are available to the public. Please see our Access Policy for important information for the public about our hours and availability before visiting. Information about photocopying and borrowing books may be found through our Circulation department.
While the Becker Medical Library staff will assist you with locating resources, please remember we are not health care professionals, and cannot provide or interpret diagnoses, medical, legal, or tax advice.
Becker Medical Library does not store patient records. Patients should consult their health care professionals.
Community Activities
The Becker Library contributes to a number of initiatives to educate and improve the lives of residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
- Consumer Health Resources
- Connect to health information that you, as a patient, parent, or caregiver, need to make well-informed decisions about your health. Learn more about a condition, locate a doctor, or find community resources.
- Mini-Medical School
- Becker Library provides demonstrations of resources for laypeople enrolled in the Mini-Medical School.
- Saturday Scholars
- Becker Library demonstrates access to credible health resources for local high school students enrolled in the Saturday Scholars program.
- Health Professions Fair
- Becker Library exhibits at the Health Professions Fair sponsored by the Office of Diversity Programs, aimed at increasing high school student interest in pursuing health care careers.
