Library Membership Services and Privileges
Library Membership is for those not affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine but who wish to have access to our services such as interlibrary loan and extended reference. Membership does not include access to the online journal collection. The annual fee is $275.00.

Membership Availability
Memberships are available to qualified individuals from the following groups:
- Private physicians or health care professionals not affiliated with Washington University Medical Center
- Faculty members of educational institutions that participate in the Higher Education Consortium of Metro St. Louis (HEC)*
- Individuals acting as agents on behalf of a private company, educational institution, corporation or law firm.
* Faculty members of HEC institutions receive automatic borrowing privileges (when presenting an HEC card and an institution ID or driver’s license). A membership is required to receive discounted rates on other Library services. Participating HEC institutions currently include: Harris Stowe State College; Lewis and Clark Community College; Logan College of Chiropractic; Maryville University-St. Louis; McKendree College; St. Louis College of Pharmacy; St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec; Saint Louis University; Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; University of Missouri-St. Louis; Washington University and Webster University.
Automatic Privileges
Membership is not required for the following groups, which automatically receive Library privileges:
- Members of Washington University’s Century Club, Eliot Society and Dean’s Committee
- Alumni of the following Washington University programs:
- School of Medicine
- School of Dental Medicine
- Health Administration Program
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Members of St. Louis Medical Society
- Members of St. Louis Dental Society
- Former WU Medical Center house staff
General Library Information
Since 1987, the Bernard Becker Medical Library at Washington University School of Medicine has made its extensive collections and information services available to the St. Louis community through a membership program. Founded in 1911, the Library is one of the oldest and largest biomedical information resources in the Midwest. Its comprehensive collection includes print and electronic books and journals, electronic databases, archival material, rare books and periodicals, and a large selection of computer software and audiovisual media. Its services are made available through the support of highly-trained staff members.
The Becker Library’s E-Catalog provides a gateway to the Library’s print and electronic collections, as well as to other resources on the Web.

Location and Parking
The Becker Medical Library is located at 660 South Euclid Avenue, at the intersection of Barnes Jewish Hospital Plaza and Euclid Avenue. This is approximately 1-1/2 blocks south of the Central West End station of the MetroLink. There is some street parking available on McKinley Avenue and a surface metered parking lot on Euclid Avenue between McKinley and Clayton Avenues. There are a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available on Barnes Jewish Hospital Plaza. Additional parking is available at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Underground Parking Garage – the garage may be entered from Barnes Jewish Hospital Plaza.
