Natural Standard Database Now Available through Becker Library
Becker Medical Library now offers a subscription to Natural Standard, a key tool for researching complementary and alternative therapies. The product is overseen by an international editorial board of physicians and pharmacists.
The editorial staff uses a grading system for evidence ranging from A (strong scientific evidence) to F (strong negative scientific evidence), with another categorization for “Lack of Evidence.” Searches for evidence are conducted in 10 international databases, and topics are updated every 3-18 months, while critical updates are made immediately. References are linked to PubMed citations.
Natural Standard is searchable in a variety of ways:
- By name of food, herb or supplement of interest
- By specific medical conditions
- By brand name
- By comparative effectiveness, letting you see at a glance all the graded evidence on a particular condition
