Neville Prendergast selected 2007-2008 NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellow

Neville Prendergast, Becker Library’s Associate Director, Health Information Resources, has been selected as one of the five members of the 2007-2008 class of the National Library of Medicine/Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries Leadership Fellows Program. The NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program is focused on preparing emerging leaders for director positions in academic health sciences libraries. Now in its sixth year, the program is jointly sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries.

Selection as a fellow is recognition of a substantial record of accomplishment and demonstrable potential for a director position. Fellows are paired with mentors who are academic health center library directors. The one-year Program design is multi-faceted and includes in-person events, attendance at an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting, an ongoing Fellow/Mentor relationship, Web-based activities and discussion on issues related to library leadership, and a two-week Site Visit to the mentor’s home library. Neville’s mentor will be Carol G. Jenkins, the director of the Health Sciences Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Neville Prendergast joined the management staff of the Becker Medical Library at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, in April 2001. As the Associate Director of the Health Information Resources division he oversees reference and information services, including library education programs for integration with the medical school curriculum. The position also oversees library outreach to the medical school community and two satellite libraries in the hospital system. Neville orchestrated the implementation of the Library Liaison Program in 2005; most recently he served as chair of the library’s Strategic Planning Committee.
