Research and Publishing Support for Authors

The Becker Medical Library staff provides a wide variety of services and resources to assist faculty, scientists and students in support of their scholarship efforts. We also provide classes to help you learn about the resources we offer. Please contact your Becker liaison for more information.

Becker Library Services

The following services are examples of services that we provide for our users. If you are interested in any of these services or do not see a service listed that you need, please contact your Becker liaison.

Author Support
  • Perform an author search in preparation for a CV
  • Verify publications by an author
  • Check your impact factor
  • Check your h-index
  • Assist with copyright questions
  • Provide a list of citations to your work – who is citing you?
  • Provide customized personal or group training or consultation sessions
  • Provide hands-on workshops
  • Assist with management of bibliographic software tools such as EndNote or Reference Manager
  • Assist with migrating your citations from one software format to another
  • Locate journal instructions for authors
Researching
  • Responsible and Efficient Literature Searching
  • Provide personal or group training or consultation sessions at Becker Library or at a location of your choice
  • Make house-calls to your office to assist with research needs
  • Consultation on databases to use for your research
  • Do a literature search (current and historical)
  • Assist with locating Meeting/Conference abstracts
  • Assist you in setting up current awareness alerts or table of contents alerts from journals
  • Assist you in setting up automated database search alerts
  • Assist in importing citations from databases to your bibliographic software
  • Assist with setting up RSS feeds
  • Do a bibliometric analysis – how has your research impacted subsequent research or clinical applications?
  • Locate contact information for a person or group
Writing
  • Verify your citations in your bibliography or references used list for a manuscript or grant application
  • Provide access to style manuals
  • Locate a statistic
  • Locate an image or graphic
Publishing
Services for Authors Wishing to Comply with the NIH Public Access Policy
Customized Classes
  • Develop a customized class (free) for your research or publication needs. Classes can be held at Becker Library or at a location of your choice.

Becker Bioinformatics Services

Becker-based bioinformatics research services include:

  • Consultation on databases and research tools relevant for your research
  • Assistance with biological database queries
  • Assessment of current biomedical research in the lab
  • Provide personal or group training or consultation sessions at Becker Library or at a location of your choice
  • Integrative teaching of bioinformatics tools as well as other resource orientation services for researchers
  • Needs assessment to determine appropriate content to answer research literature and data questions
  • Assistance with identification and leverage of existing expertise and relevant programs in the school
  • Promotion of professional relationships and collaborations with organizations such as the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)

The del.icio.us list of Scholarly Communications resources is searchable by a variety of different tags and allows subscription by RSS feed.
