Special Collections Book Club

Anyone with an interest in medicine, literature or history is invited to take part in Becker Library’s Special Collections Book Club!

Every few months, we’ll hold a discussion about a novel that features medical history and look at primary sources that bring the story to life.

Currently reading:

“The Anatomy Lesson” by Nina Siegal (2014)
This historical novel provides an imagined backstory for Rembrandt’s 1632 oil painting “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp,” and serves as a perfect jumping-off point for a discussion on art, anatomy, and the relationship between the two.

Discussion and Primary Sources Presentation
Wednesday, June 27 at 4 p.m.
King Center, 7th Floor of Becker Library
RSVPs are encouraged but not required (link coming soon)

Future reading:

“Year of Wonders” by Geraldine Brooks (2001)
“The Nature of Monsters” by Clare Clark (2007)
“The Essex Serpent” by Sarah Perry (2017)
