About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

Digital Commons@Becker Marks Open Access Week With New Milestones

The beginning of International Open Access Week on October 20th just happens to coincide with a couple of significant milestones for Becker Library's   own Open Access (OA) repository - Digital Commons@Becker.

This week marked the 100,000th download from the Digital Commons@Becker Open Access Publication collection.  This collection contains over 3,300 (and growing) peer-reviewed articles authored by Washington University School of Medicine faculty that have been published in open access journals or authorized by the publishers for open access availability. Open access works are generally defined as being publicly available online and free of most licensing and copyright restrictions.

The other milestone will come within the next month when Digital Commons@Becker will surpass 500,000 total downloads since its launch in 2010.

Becker Library maintains Digital Commons@Becker in support of Washington University’s commitment to the principles of open access publishing and making the scholarly work and research results of our faculty as widely and easily available as possible.

Since the Faculty Senate's adoption of the Washington University Open Access  Resolution in 2011, both Becker Library and Olin Library on the Danforth Campus have responded with a number of programs and resources to assist authors with facilitating the access and dissemination of their work and managing the rights to their scholarly articles.

In addition to Digital Commons@Becker here are some other resources for our authors:
