About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

Indicators of Biomedical Research Impact: The Becker Model

A revised version of the Becker Model is available. The Becker Model is a list of indicators of biomedical research impact and outcomes based on retrospective review of bench and clinical research trials, review of the literature for examples of health outcomes and interviews with investigators. It also includes examples of impact/influence metrics based on publication data. The Becker Model can be used to help with reports. Examples are:

  • Tenure/Promotion
  • Grant Reporting
  • Individual Performance Review
  • Departmental Performance Review
  • Administrative/University Reporting
  • Benchmarking
  • Reporting to the Community of Research Findings

Suggestions are most welcome. Please send them to the post author.
