Introducing Aeon

We are very excited to announce that Archives and Rare Books has decided to implement Aeon, a library requesting software created for special collections. This new system is a powerful tool for you, our patrons. After registering for an Aeon account, you will be able to:

  • Schedule visits to our reading room to view rare books, archival documents, and other special collections materials;
  • Order image reproductions for personal, academic, or commercial use;
  • Review all of your current and past requests.

There are several benefits that come with using Aeon. For example, if you want to look at a rare book, you no longer need to copy the call number and e-mail it to us. Instead, you can simply put in a request directly from the catalog record. If you need to order scans or photocopies, you’ll be able to check your account to see how close your request is to being finished. And if you’re working on a lengthy research project you won’t need to struggle to remember which materials you looked at, since Aeon will track your requesting history for you.

Registering for an Aeon account is a straightforward process. Simply go to the library’s Aeon homepage at https://becker-aeon.wustl.edu/logon/. If you are affiliated with Washington University and have a WUSTL Key ID, please choose that option when you create your Aeon account. If you don’t have a WUSTL Key, you will be asked to create an account using a non-Washington University e-mail address. From there, just follow the instructions. The e-mail address you use to register will become your user name.

Remember that you are always welcome to come up to special collections and speak directly with a staff member if you need assistance.
