About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

Journal Reading Mobile Apps

Keeping up with the latest published literature can be a daunting task. If you enjoy reading on the go, journal reading apps can help simplify the process of finding recent articles. Most of these can be customized to “push” journal content to you from specific journals, or from journals within your specialty.

Ovid Today

The Ovid Today app allows you to view the most current journal articles from Becker Library's collection of Ovid journals.  After a personal user account is set-up (while on the WUSM network) you can access journal articles off campus (with an internet connection).  Please note that while the app contains a long list of journals, only those that Becker Library subscribes to are available to view as full text. You don’t need an Ovid database account to access the app.

The Ovid Today app is currently only available for the Apple iPad. Find information about installing and using the app here:

http://beckerguides.wustl.edu/mobilebeckerresources (scroll to the bottom of the page).

Docphin

The Docphin app allows you to follow medical journals and news. Choose the sources that you want to follow from a list of journals and news media, and see ratings and comments from your colleagues. Content gets pushed to you automatically once you have selected your journals and resources.

Full text articles from Becker's collection can be accessed while on the WUSM network, or when you're off network if you have a Becker proxy account.  Please note that while the app contains a long list of journals, only those that Becker Library subscribes to are available to view as full text

Docphin (free) is available for Apple devices (iTunes), Android devices (Google Play), or can be used with a web browser. Find more information about the Docphin app here: https://www.docphin.com/

The Read by QxMD app can be customized to send article content to you based on your specialty or areas of interest. The app has an integrated PubMed search box which can be used to search for articles. The app also has tools like highlighting and annotation.

Full text articles from Becker's collection can be accessed while on the WUSM network, or when you're off network if you have a Becker proxy account.  Please note that while the app contains a long list of journals, only those that Becker Library subscribes to are available to view as full text.

Read by QxMD (free) is available for Apple devices (iTunes), Android devices (Google Play), or can be used with a web browser. Find more information about Read here: https://www.readbyqxmd.com/
