About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

KEGG site license at WU survey

Becker Library and the Center for Genome Sciences & Systems Biology (CGS) are investigating whether sufficient interest exists on campus to maintain the WUSTL KEGG mirror.

KEGG logoThe Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) is a comprehensive resource drawn to for genetics and genomics. Becker Library and the Center for Genome Sciences & Systems Biology (CGS) are investigating whether sufficient interest exists on campus to maintain the WUSTL KEGG mirror, and to find a more sustainable way to support KEGG, going forward.

The main KEGG website http://www.genome.jp/kegg/, allows users to run small individual queries at no cost. For high level large scale data analysis, however, users need access to the raw files which are available only through a license subscription. For the past 2 years, the CGS have kindly provided institution-wide access to the entire set of KEGG databases via the FTP site https://kegg-test.wustl.edu/.

If you are interested in supporting the KEGG site license and WUSTL KEGG mirror please let me know. This is NOT a commitment on your part. Once we know how many people are interested we will follow up with final information on per lab costs and ask for your commitment at that time.

Read more about the WUSTL KEGG mirror at https://kegg-test.wustl.edu/.
