About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

The Archives and Rare Books department of the Becker Medical Library has unveiled its new Digital Image Gallery featuring digital images from many of its Visual Collections. Developed to provide access to the tens of thousands of original images and visual materials held by the library, the Digital Image Gallery currently provides access to over 3,000 images.

The image database includes images and metadata from the library's existing online exhibits - Deafness in Disguise, Missouri Women in the Health Science Professions, and Medicine in Times of Need - as well as images from an upcoming online exhibit, Missouri Medical Journeys. The images come from over 60 of the Visual Collections held within the Archives and Rare Books department. More images and metadata will be added to the Digital Image Gallery as additional items from the Visual Collections are digitized.

The current online exhibits that include Image Galleries have been updated to incorporate a similar user interface as that used in the full Digital Image Gallery. All Image Galleries now provide both browsing and searching functionality. Patrons may also submit comments about the images.

The images in the Digital Image Gallery reflect only a selection of those available in the Archives and Rare Book collections. For more information about the collections or to inquire about additional images, please email or call 314-362-4236.
