About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

New Features in UpToDate

Becker Medical Library's subscription to UpToDate now includes version 16.1. UpToDate releases major updates three times a year - in March, July, and November. New features in this version include:

  • Updates to about 45% of the topics - click the "What's New" tab to see current updates
  • Calculators relevant to clinical practice - type "calculators" in the New Search box to see a complete list
  • Enhanced patient education information on more than 350 topics

UpToDate also has a drug interaction tool available under the New Search box on the main page.

UpToDate interface

UpToDate covers more than 7,300 topics and is a key resource in Becker Library's support of evidence-based practice.

Students, residents, fellows and practitioners may wish to purchase personal subscriptions to UpToDate, which include PDA access and tracking of searches for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Please see UpToDate's web site for personal subscription details. Becker Library's institutional subscription does not provide PDA access on DVD, or credit towards continuing medical education.

Please note: Becker Library's license for UpToDate does not allow access through the Becker Library Proxy Server.

For more information about UpToDate, please contact the Information Services desk at 314-362-7085 or email AskBecker@wustl.edu.
