Search for Images in UpToDate

UpToDate is well-known as a resource for finding evidence-based clinical summaries for a wide range of diseases and medical conditions.  One feature of UpToDate that some may not be familiar with, however, is the ability to search for images.  In UpToDate users can search for medical drawings, diagrams, charts, and graphics. These images can be used for presentations, posters, learning aids, or for patient education.

To search for images in UpToDate:

1. Go to becker.wustl.edu and click on the UpToDate link under “popular resources”

2. Once you’re in UpToDate click on the down arrow next to search box and select “Graphics”

3. Enter your search terms and click on the blue magnifying glass to perform your search

Users have the option of exporting UpToDate images to PowerPoint. It is also easy to print or email images.  Click on an image and you will see a display window like this:

Use the options at the top of the screen to export, print, or email the image.  UptoDate copyright information will be included with the image.  UpToDate images can be used for no cost and no additional copyright permissions for educational purposes (including presentations, conference posters, etc.). Users would need to seek copyright permission from UpToDate to use images in published articles, textbooks, or other commercial products.

Contact Becker Medical Library if you need assistance searching for images in UpToDate.
