About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

Upcoming Library Systems Outage

Notice: Library Systems Outage

On Saturday, January 2, 2010 all library systems will be unavailable for up to 5 hours between noon and 5 pm for hardware upgrades. The upgrades will affect the following:

These systems will be unavailable both in the library and from off campus. Direct access to electronic journals will be available on campus using the URL for the journal. Users will not be able to lookup the journal URL from the library's catalog but should be able to connect,  when on campus, from databases such as PubMed and Ovid.
During the outage UpToDate, MDConsult and ScienceDirect will NOT be available in BJH or SLCH from computers on the BJC Carenet network.

The Information Services staff may be able to obtain and send an electronic article to off campus users if you can supply the journal title, volume, issue and page numbers. On Saturday, January 2 from noon - 5 pm, call 362-7085 or 747-0023 for assistance.
