This Glaser Gallery exhibit, "Reading Images: Allegorical Illustration in the World of Print," is now on display on the seventh floor of Becker Medical Library.

Renaissance Europe loved symbolism. Churches were adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows and elaborately carved facades; nobles decorated their palaces with allegorical paintings; and public spaces featured fountains and statues depicting mythic creatures. The rare books in this exhibit showcase how this delight in allegory and symbolism spilled over into the world of print.
