On the first Friday of each month, join us on Zoom to see themed picks from the library's renowned archival and rare book collections. We're celebrating Brain Awareness Month with June's theme: 500 Years of the Brain.

See how our perception of the brain evolved over 500 years from illustrations in 10 rare books printed from 1496 to 1896.

First Fridays at Becker - The Brain - Friday June 4th from 2 - 3 p.m.

We'll be displaying the earliest illustrations of the brain in the Becker Library collection from the 1490's: “Fasciculus medicinae, 1491” (facsimile 1988) and “Philosophia Pauperum (Philosophy for the simple),” 1496. We will also see how the idea of brain localization arose and evolved into our current understanding of mental processes.
