Join us for the 78th Historia Medica Lecture, 'The Hidden History of Medical Risk: Examples from Premodern Surgery' given by Marquis Berrey, PhD, Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Iowa.
Berrey's current research traces the personal virtues and disciplinary character determinative of ancient surgical knowledge into its early modern manifestations. He believes in the instrumental utility of historical medicine for contemporary medical practice and the importance of medical history within the medical humanities. He holds a B.A. in Classics from St. Olaf College, a MA and PhD in classics from The University of Texas at Austin, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Premedicine from Johns Hopkins University.
