The DMPTool is a free web-based tool created and maintained by the California Digital Library (CDL) that provides researchers with general boilerplate text and guidance based on specific funding-agency requirements in a simple-to-use online template to help write a Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP). WashU has an institutional affiliation with the DMPTool, so you can sign on using your WUSTL key.
In this information session, Seonyoung Kim from Becker Medical Library and Jennifer Moore from University Library will walk you through the steps involved in using the DMPTool to write a DMSP focusing on the NIH and NSF templates and how to get feedback from the WashU DMPTool admins directly from the DMPTool.
Seonyoung Kim is a Senior Support Scientist in Bernard Becker Medical Library’s Data Management and Sharing Group at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). She conducts data interviews and assists researchers with repository selection and data curation for the WashU institutional repository, Digital Commons@Becker. She also provides consultation services on data management and sharing (DMS) and writing DMS plans. Furthermore, she is the WashU DMPTool administrator and a working member of the national DMPTool-NIH Template Working Group, developing NIH templates and guidance. Seonyoung has over 25 years of experience working in academic and industry research lab settings. Before joining Becker Library, she managed the WUSM In Vivo Imaging Core, specializing in 3D/4D imaging data capture, analysis, and archiving. Before joining WashU, she worked at the University of Michigan, MinMed, Allergan, and Monsanto on various projects ranging from protein purification and characterization, formulation development, and analytical method development/validation to managing the stability evaluation program. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and an MS/BS in Chemistry from Seoul National University.
Jennifer Moore is Head of Data Services at Washington University Libraries. She leads a team focused on data sharing and curation, literacy, handling, management, data visualization, and GIS. Moore is a partner and curator in the Data Curation Network and a co-PI on a National Science Foundation Grant (NSF) EAGER grant, Completing the Lifecycle: Developing Evidence-Based Models of Research Data Sharing. Additionally. She’s co-PI on the IMLS DCN’s Education project, and a co-editor on 3D Data from Curation to Curation: Community Standards in 3D Preservation. Moore has degrees in Anthropology and Fine Art; she received her MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010.
