About Access Restrictions to Electronic Resources

Access and use of electronic resources made available by the Becker Medical Library are governed by license agreements between the School of Medicine and publishers or third parties. Several of the electronic resources carry some restriction on their use. Access may be restricted by user location, number of concurrent users, and/or password.

In short, most people experience access limitations based on the network to which their computer is connected. Below is a quick breakdown of what can be accessed from various networks.

The Archives and Rare Books section of the Bernard Becker Medical Library is home to one of the nation’s finest collections of historical medical materials. The Archives specializes in materials and institutional records relating to the history of Washington University School of Medicine and its affiliated institutions. The nine distinct Rare Books Collections total approximately 22,000 books and journals and cover major authors and ideas from classical antiquity to the present.

  • Archival Collections - Institutional records and materials relating primarily to the history of Washington University School of Medicine and its affiliated institutions.
  • Becker Archives Database - Access finding aids, inventories, and guides to the archives and manuscripts collections at the Becker Archives.
  • Oral Histories - Recorded interviews and transcripts dating from 1959.
  • Rare Books - The library holds nine distinct rare book and journal collections. 
  • Visual and Artifact - Vast array of photographs providing a unique pictorial history of the Medical Center, staff, operations and facilities.
