Measurement Instruments

Evidence of Clinical Implementation Measurement instrument generated by the research study used by health care providers and/or consumers.

Measurement instruments include questionnaires, psychological tests, health status indicators, genetic tests, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/manuals, inventories, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, calculators, to name a few.

One way to assess use of a measurement instrument by health care providers and/or consumers is whether the instrument is noted on a database. See Research Output: Measurement Instruments for information on how to locate measurement instruments. Some measurement instruments are also published by major organizations and others are made available by healthcare companies.

Other measurement instruments are available on web sites such as the Glaucoma 5-Year Risk Estimator. Use can be tracked by web statistics. See Research Output: Website of Research Study for more information.

Assessment

Another option of determining whether a measurement instrument is used in clinical practice or by consumers is reviewing the literature, especially trade publications, for references to measurement instruments including guidance for use. For resources that may be helpful for review of the literature, see Knowledge Transfer: Mass Media and Knowledge Transfer: Reviews.

Search Tip Search using the keywords; title of the research study; the disease, condition or disorder; the specific medical specialty of the disease, disorder or condition; or name of the primary investigator/s.
