Featuring an advertisement for Kola-Cardinette, which was “an exceedingly palatable cordial-tonic” made from the kola nut. Kola nuts contain caffeine, and the remedy was intended to “generate vim, increase vigor, and enhance vitality.” Pacific Medical Journal, October 1898.
