NIH Public Access Policy for Publications: Accelerated Effective Date
NIH issued a notice on April 30, 2025 as a revision to the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy for Publications. Per revision notice: Revision: Notice of Updated Effective Date for the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy, the new effective date of the 2024 Policy is now applicable to:
Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication
on or after July 01, 2025

Elsevier Article Processing Charge (APC) Waivers for WashU Corresponding Authors who Publish Their Work Under an Open Access License
We are in the second year of our Agreement with Elsevier that allows for a full waiver of the APC for WashU Corresponding Authors who publish their work under an Open Access license in a journal that offers Open Access publishing (Hybrid journal) as an option. A Hybrid journal is a subscription-based journal that offers authors the option to publish their work under an Open Access license and issues of the journal will contain a mix of subscription and Open Access articles.
The table displays the number of remaining waivers for authors who publish their work under an Open Access license in a Hybrid journal or a Hybrid Cell Press journal.

The agreement also allows for an APC discount for authors who publish their work in Gold Open Access journal. The APC discount is 25% for Gold journals and 10% for Gold Cell Press and Lancet journals. Please see: Elsevier APC Waivers and Discounts for WashU Authors for more information.
