Updates and Tips for the NIH Biosketch

ORCID Link displays on the NIH Biosketch Common Form

Applicants may have noticed that the instructions for the new NIH Biosketch Common Form and Supplement no longer allow applicants to include the link to their My Bibliography so reviewers can view a full list of publications. Applicants are also limited to citing ten publications. However, the link to the applicant’s ORCID page is available from the Persistent Identifier (PID) of the Senior/Key Person field of the Biosketch. Applicants who want reviewers to view other publications may want to review their Works page in ORCID to confirm that all publications are populated and/or include a link to their My Bibliography page in the Websites & Links section of the ORCID record.

Use My Bibliography to populate your NIH Biosketch citations

My Bibliography is recommended for managing your citations for the Products section of the NIH Biosketch Common Form using SciENcv. My Bibliography includes the PMCID for citations to applicable publications under the NIH Public Access Policy for publications. A PMCID is required for citations to applicable publications that are authored by an applicant or resulted from your NIH-funded research. As of this date, citations from ORCID do not display PMCIDs.

Markdown syntax now available in SciENcv

SciENcv has recently added the option to use markdown syntax for text formatting in the Personal Statement and Contributions to Science. Markdown uses special characters, like asterisks or hashtags, to apply formatting to your text. In SciENcv, a link to the NCBI Markdown Syntax Guide displays above the Personal Statement and Contributions to Science when in editing mode. Applicants should double-check the draft and certified pdf before submission to ensure formatting has been applied as desired.
