In the absence of the National Guideline Clearinghouse website, locating clinical guidelines for evidence-based decision making can be done easily using the resources and tips described below.
- Use the filters and limits options provided by biomedical databases like gov, Embase, or CINAHL Plus to easily limit search results to Guidelines or Practice Guidelines using the Article or Publication Types option usually found on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Browse and search for guidelines using the ClinicalKey mobile app or website by selecting Guidelines from the drop-down search menu. E-books “CURRENT Practice Guidelines in Primary Care 2018” and “CURRENT Practice Guidelines in Inpatient Medicine 2018–2019” are available via the Access Medicine mobile app or site. Visit the Mobile Medicine Apps subject guide via the following link for download and access information: http://beckerguides.wustl.edu/mobileresources.
- You can also find evidence bundles and reports for evidence-based decision making on the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) website.
- Sign up for The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) Physician’s First Watch email, to receive updates on new evidence and guideline updates. Visit the NEJM Journal Watch website to create an account and sign up for email alerts.
A Becker clinical librarian would be happy to help if you would like assistance locating this information – contact us at askbecker@wustl.edu.
Update 10/19/18: Recently, ECRI Institute, the organization responsible for managing and updating the previous NGC site, sent an email that it will soon begin providing a guidelines site similar to the previous NGC site for free. To sign up for email updates, visit their website here: https://www.ecri.org/Pages/ECRI_guidelines.aspx
