Prophetic Illustration in the Paracelsus Collection

Prophetic works began to be printed as soon as Gutenberg developed his system of printing with movable metal type.  In the early modern period, illustrated prophetic texts provided a way for people to try and understand the political and religious upheavals that surrounded them.

An exhibit featuring examples of these fascinating works from Becker Library’s Robert E. Schlueter Paracelsus Collection  is on display now in the Archives and Rare Books Glaser Gallery.  Please visit the exhibit located on the 7th floor of the library, or browse the Prophetic Illustration in the Paracelsus Collection digital exhibit to learn more about some of the most popular prophecies published in the 16th and 17th centuries.
