Software Managed by Becker Library

Becker Medical Library licenses and supports many different types commercially available software. For assistance with any of these packages or to submit requests for new software, please email BioInfo@wusm.wustl.edu.

Cambridge Structural Database

The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is the principal product of the CCDC. It is the central focus of the CSD System, which also comprises software for database access, structure visualization and data analysis, and structural knowledge bases derived from the CSD.

CSD software has been installed on one of the workstations located in the west bank of computers on the main floor of Becker Medical Library. This software is available for use by any WUSM faculty, student, or staff member.

DiscoveryGate

The Washington University community now has access to a new, innovative resource tool to find basic, molecular, biological, medicinal and other chemistry-related information. Medical School clinical, pre-clinical and research faculty, staff and students can use the web-based DiscoveryGate interface to access Crossfire Beilstein, and Gmelin.

All users will need to install some helper applications when they first access the site. Please contact the Becker Medical Library’s Information Services Desk at 314-362-7085, or e-mail askreference@msnotes.wustl.edu if you need assistance when downloading the DiscoveryGate software.

GeneGo MetaCore

MetaCore is an integrated software suite for functional analysis of experimental data. The scope of the data types includes microarray and SAGE expression, SNPs and CGH arrays, proteomics, metabolomics, pathway analysis, Y2H and other custom interactions. MetaCore is based on a proprietary manually curated database of protein-protein, protein-DNA, and protein compound interactions, metabolic and signally pathways and the effects of bioactive molecules in gene expression. The analytical package includes easy to use, intuitive tools for data visualization, mapping and exchange, multiple networking algorithms and filters.

MetaCore is available to Washington University personnel for an annual subscription rate of $500 per year, per user. To register for access, please use the GeneGo MetaCore Registration Form.

Lasergene

Lasergene is Comprehensive Software for DNA & protein sequence analysis, contig assembly and sequence project management. Some of the tasks which can be carried out by Lasergene include: plasmid construction and map creation, sequence assembly, sequence alignment, protein structure prediction, primer design, and gene discoveries. To purchase the license, please contact the business office at 314-362-2785. For technique questions or for information on how to use the software, please email BioInfo@wusm.wustl.edu.

A Lasergene Software Overview Webinar is available for download. The webinar was held April 17, 2009 and is approximately 96 minutes in length. Users must download and install the Webex player to view the webinar.

Partek Genomics Suite (Partek GS)

Partek GS is a comprehensive suite of advanced statistics and interactive data visualization specifically designed to extract biological signals from genomic data. Partek GS can be used to analyze a wide variety of large genomic technologies, such as microarray-based gene and exon expression, copy number, mapping, tiling, and SNP data from major technology providers including Affymetrix, Agilent, Illumina, and Nimblegen.

Beginning February 1, 2009, Partek GS will be available to the Washington University community at a greatly reduced rate through a site license managed by the Becker Library. Washington University users can obtain a license to download and install the software by completing the Partek GS Online Registration Form.

Partek will be providing free training sessions to be hosted at the Becker Library. Dates for these sessions will be announced to registered users as they are scheduled. In addition, the help menu of the Partek GS leads the user to a number of tutorials as well as a detailed user manual.

If you have any questions about Partek GS, please contact Lili Wang, Bioinformatics Specialist at 314-362-2796 or via email at wangli@wustl.edu.

Spotfire

Spotfire DecisonSite provides an interactive, visual approach to data analysis that empowers individuals to quickly and easily see trends, patterns, outliers and unanticipated relationships in data. Please contact help@bmi.wustl.edu for information about Spotfire software installation and user fees. For free Spotfire training, please see http://becker.wustl.edu/resources/bioinfo/classes.html.
